Exhibition "FontanaArte. House of Glass"

The spring exhibition of LE STANZE DEL VETRO dedicated to FontanaArte, and will deal with a theme of great interest in the panorama of art glass.

In the year of FontanaArte's 90th anniversary, the exhibition dedicated to the brand under the title FontanaArte. House of glass.

FontanaArte. House of Glass, curated by Christian Larsen, is a retrospective exhibition that critically examines the manufacturer of glass furnishings through the production periods of its four great artistic directors: Gio Ponti (1932-1933), Pietro Chiesa (1933-1948), Max Ingrand (1954-1967) e Gae Aulenti (1979-1996).

Through 85 of the most exceptional pieces in FontanaArte's production, the exhibition will focus on the poetic possibilities of sheet glass, an industrial material worked by the many designers and artists who have collaborated with the company throughout its history. The exhibition will follow a course where every gallery will focus on deepening our understanding of each individual designer, culminating in a suite of FontanaArte furnished interiors that evoke a complete Milanese apartment. The exhibition layout is designed by architect Massimiliano Locatelli.
The project will be accompanied by an illustrated catalogue, published by Skira, containing essays by leading academics and a collection of all the pieces on display.

LE STANZE DEL VETRO is a joint initiative between Fondazione Giorgio Cini and Pentagram Stiftung devoted to studying the art of glassmaking in the 20th and 21st centuries. A permanent exhibition space designed to host a series of solo and group shows featuring international artists who have used glass during their careers as an original means of expression and a medium for researching their own personal aesthetics. The aim is to illustrate the numerous potential uses of the medium and bring glass back to be in the centre of attention and discussion on the international art scene.
